Project Summary

The Shivee West project is located in the South Gobi desert of Mongolia, approximately 570 km south of the capital city of Ulaanbaatar and 80 km north of the border with China.  Shivee West is adjacent to the Entrée-OTLLC Joint Venture Property and the Oyu Tolgoi mining complex developed by Ivanhoe and its partner Rio Tinto.  The area covered by the project totals 35,173 hectares and is 100% owned by Entrée.

Access to Shivee West from Ulaanbaatar is possible by road via Mandalgovi, or by commercial flight to Tsogttsetsii, a small town approximately 100 km northwest of the project and then via paved road. Road infrastructure from Oyu Tolgoi to China is being upgraded and a railway line is proposed.

Entrée is exploring for epithermal-style gold mineralization and porphyry-style copper-gold mineralization at Shivee West.

Argo and Zone III Gold Targets

Entrée's exploration in 2011 focussed on the epithermal gold mineralization of Zone III.  Work comprised 23 vertical RC holes totalling 1,470 m, excavator trenching (1,120 m) and surface sampling over an area of 200 m by 600 m, resulting in discovery of the Argo gold zone 250 m north of Zone III.

Significant results at the Argo Zone include two separate high-grade surface chip samples averaging 42.4 g/t Au over 4 m and 19.3 g/t Au over 3 m.  Hole EG-RC-11-112 returned 14 m of 1.82 g/t Au and hole EG-RC-11-111 returned 3 m of 2.21 g/t Au.

Trench sampling on Zone III returned 0.69 g/t Au over 6 m and 1.44 g/t Au over 6 m in a separate interval. Previous sampling returned gold values of 0.51 g/t Au over 22 m and 1.39 g/t Au over 18 m .  Best results from drilling are from hole EG-RC-11-123 which returned 8 m of 2.08 g/t Au.

In both zones, mineralization is hosted by quartz veined felsic volcanic rocks. These lie within a well-defined, linear magnetic low which extends for 2.5 km along strike.  Exploration in 2012 is planned and will evaluate Argo with additional drilling and trenching, and will explore the magnetic low along strike for additional high grade gold mineralization.

Shivee Tolgoi Trend

Deep geophysical (induced polarization) targets have been identified on the Shivee Toloi Trend and four were drilled during the 2010 exploration program. The stratigraphy encountered in some of the holes is interpreted to be equivalent to the ore-hosting Devonian-age units at Oyu Tolgoi. The potential for deep Oyu Tolgoi copper-gold style mineralization was re-evaluated in 2011 with detailed geological studies and geophysical surveying. A 1,670 line-kilometre magnetic survey was completed over a belt of rocks which show similarities with the units which host the nearby Oyu Tolgoi deposits.

Exploration Activities

  • RC drilling: 2,470 m in 23 holes (2011) Click here for results.
  • Magnetic geophysical survey: 1,670 line-kilometre (2011)
  • Core drilling: 11,634 m in 11 holes (2010)
  • IP and gravity geophysical surveys, geological mapping and geochemical sampling (2010)
  • Licence conversion: mining licence obtained (2009)

Exploring in Mongolia

Entrée started exploring in Mongolia in 2002 on mineral concessions surrounding Ivanhoe’s Oyu Tolgoi project when only the Southwest Oyu deposit was known.  A portion of Entrée’s original ground now forms the Entrée-OTLLC Joint Venture Property which includes the Heruga and Hugo North Extension deposits.  Entrée holds 20% carried interest in the resources of these deposits which are being developed by Ivanhoe Mines and its partner Rio Tinto.

From its initial exploration ground, Entrée retains 100% ownership on Shivee West located immediately west of the Oyu Tolgoi mining complex.  Shivee West includes areas geologically similar to the Devonian-aged setting of the Oyu Tolgoi deposits and is being explored for porphyry copper gold and epithermal gold deposits.
